    Filderstadt, Germany -- (Oct. 13)Martina Hingis will need surgery for torn ligaments when she sprained her ankles in her semifinal match with Davenport. It was a double blow for Martina as she also loses her #1 ranking to Capriati when the new rankings which will be released on Monday. It's very unfortunate and very likely that Martina will be out for the rest of the year.

    The 2000 US Open
    Martina Hingis lost in the semifinals to Venus Williams in three grueling sets 6-4 3-6 5-7. She was two points away from winning, leading 5-3 in the third but Venus won four straight games to win the match.

     

    The 2000 Wimbledon
    Martina Hingis lost to Venus Williams in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon 2000 in three sets.

     

    The 2000 French Open

    Martina failed again to win a French Open title losing to Mary Pierce in the semifinals.

    The 2000 Australian Open

    Martina ended her three years win streak after she lost to Lindsay Davenport in the final 6-1 7-5. Her three year win streak in doubles also ended when she and Mary Pierce lost to Rennae Stubbs and Lisa Raymond 6-4 5-7 6-4 in the finals.

     

    The 1999 US Open

    Martina Hingis was beaten by Serena Williams of United States 6-3 7-6 in the finals. This was her third final in a row winning in '97 and losing in '98 and '99. She beat Venus though in the semifinals.

     

    The 1999 Wimbledon

    Martina ousted in the 1st round losing to Jelena Dokic of Australia 6-2 6-0. This was the first time she and her mother weren't together and having serious personal problems that have been recently resolved.

     

    2nd half of 1999

    The 1999 French Open

    Martina Hingis again was denied of a French Open title. She lost to the great Steffi Graf 4-6 7-5 6-2. It was a very emotional loss wherein her mother had to guide her back on the court as she cried by her mother's shoulder for the awarding ceremony.

     

    The 1999 Australian Open

    Martina Hingis won her 3rd straight title by beating Amelie Mauresmo in the finals. She and Anna Kournikova teamed up to win the doubles, her 3rd straight time as well beating Davenport and Zvereva.
